What Is A Fluval Aquarium Filter?

I have found that Fluval is an actual brand name of a type of canister filtration system for aquariums. A Fluval Aquarium Filter is very versatile and can be used for chemical, biological or mechanical filtration in saltwater aquariums. They can be stand alone filters or run on an as needed basis in conjunction with other filters. Many of the canister filters can be hung on the side of the thank, placed beside a tank, or put down under a tank in a cabinet.

The newer designs of a Fluval aquarium filter are more user friendly. They are easier to open, close and restart, including easier access to cleaning prefilter sponges. These filters are durable and well built and also versatile in their filtering capabilities. Because they are considered a top-notch filter, they are a little more expensive, but worth the extra investment.

The Fluval aquarium filter is a multi-stage filtration system. It contains separate chambers and media trays in the canister so that it can function as all three types of filtration, mechanical, biological and chemical. The chambers make it easier to clean the sponges without disrupting the media trays. The Fluval aquarium filter now comes with auto-stop valves so that water flow is shut off but hoses can remain intact while doing routine tank maintenance. It also has an adjustable output adapter that allows the filter to be placed above or below the water surface. Also, the Fluval aquarium filter has self-priming and self-flushing impellers. Finally, it comes with foam blocks, carbon and BioMAX biological filter media. There are several models to choose from, depending on your tank needs.

Be sure to place your Fluval aquarium filter in an easily accessible spot, as you will need to clean it and change the material in the media trays about once a week. The entire unit should be taken apart and cleaned once a month. If the manufacturer offers parts or accessories to faster or more easily clean the unit, they are recommended. You will need to take care and attention to regular media changes and cleanings or your water flow rate will slow down, which will ultimately build up nitrates in the tank. Remember, the purpose of a canister filter is to remove waste and debris from your tank water.
